Time for the Laurelhurst Garage Sale!
Saturday June 18th, 2011
The Laurelhurst neighborhood is known for many things. But it’s annual ‘don’t miss it’ garage sale is in just a few days! Can you feel it? Did you even know it was coming? Well clear your schedule because you are going to want to be on deck for this one. This is one of those ‘let’s-get-up-early-grab-coffee-and go-elbow-our-way (gently and with kind manners as always of course) through-the-hoards-and-see what-treasures-we-can-unearth’ opportunities.
Here’s a cool map to help you get to Laurelhurst…! Enjoy strolling/running from home to home, admiring the architecture, the attention to detail, the meticulous lawns, the table and tables of finds that are sure to deplete you of any cash you were hoarding for that new couch. And you know what, you’ve just got to roll with it. I know good friends with incredible taste that outfitted their home because of a Laurelhurst Garage Sale….or an LGS if you will.B So throw on your sweats, grab a friend, and another friend, and a truck and bring your cashola—and prepare to have a great start to your weekend!
If you really want to get ahead of the game, check outB Portland craigslist under ‘Laurelhurst garage sale’B and see what else you might find ahead of time. And there is no way I’m waiting until 9am to go—are you kidding me?
How to Have Garage Sale Success:
1.B B Arrive in Laurlhurst 30 minutes ahead of the 8am start time and get yourself a map. The map will show which homes are participating and a short concise list of the top items that will be for sale at each.
2.B Park in a neutral, central spot and bring those re-useableB grocery bags with sturdy straps. This will reduce the number ofB trips to your car and allow you to shop longer without lots of little plastic or paper bags. If you’ve got one of those cool 2-wheeled grocery carts–that would be perfect–no back strain!
3.B Make a list of the items that are most important to you. This will help you keep focused and not get side-tracked with other ‘must have’ itemsB that might pop up! Measure the area you want to put those items (bunk beds, kitchen island, chairs, couches etc.) so that you know the width and depth of the area you have to fit the item in.
4.B Be sure that your car is completely empty and include old sheets/blankets with which to wrap any furniture pieces.
5.B Come ‘hands free’ i.e. use a light handbag/backpack that allows you to keep your wallet and cell phone safe but not reliant on you putting something down (and maybe forgetting). Be sure to have plenty of 1’s, 5’s, 20’s and quarters. *Note–if you are purchasing many items at one home, be sure to pay for them all at once–and ask for a lower price when you do! 🙂
Add bottled water and a measuring tape to your list and you should be all set!! With this–I send you out–go forth! Enjoy the architecture,
